There’s no one-size-fits-all answer – and that’s a good thing. The price of apartment cleaning depends on how much work is actually involved. Knowing the main factors helps you compare offers and phrase your request so it can be answered quickly and accurately.

What determines the price

  • Size and layout: more square metres mean more time. The number of bathrooms and the size of the kitchen matter too.
  • Condition: a regularly maintained apartment is cleaned faster than one where limescale, grease or dust have built up for weeks.
  • Scope: just floors, kitchen and bathroom – or also cupboards inside, the oven or windows? Every task takes time.
  • Frequency: with regular cleaning, the effort per visit is usually lower than for a one-off deep clean.
  • Special requirements: delicate materials, pets or hard-to-reach areas need extra care.

Hourly rate or fixed price?

Many cleaners charge by the hour, others offer a fixed price for a defined scope. With an hourly rate you pay exactly for the time needed. A fixed price gives you certainty in advance. Either way, the scope should be clearly described.

How to get a suitable offer

The more precise your request, the more precise the offer. These details help:

  1. Size of the apartment and number of rooms, bathrooms and kitchens
  2. What should be cleaned – and what shouldn’t
  3. Preferred frequency: one-off, weekly or every two weeks
  4. Special features such as delicate floors, pets or parking

A short visit or a few photos often clear up any remaining questions.

What to look for when comparing

A low price is only a good deal if the service is right. Check whether travel, cleaning products and extra tasks are included, and ask for the agreed scope in writing. That way there are no surprises later.

Can cleaning be tax-deductible?

In Germany, costs for household services can partly be deducted from income tax under § 35a EStG. This usually requires an invoice and a cashless payment, such as a bank transfer. Whether and to what extent this applies to you is best clarified with a tax adviser.
